This isn't a profile of each committee member as such, but rather a three part questionnaire regarding Touch and the EWOB Touch club and the committee members' response.
So, how did you get involved with the EWOB Club?
"In approximately 1989 members of the Bowe Family - myself, Kerry and Lu formed the club to enable family members to play sports together. My three children and myself are still involved in Touch. Kerry and his three children all played with EWOB. Lu and three of her children were involved with EWOB. The EWOB Club has grown from one team which lost all games bar one in the first year, to a club with seven teams in the local competition." - J Bowe
"I can't recall when I first played for the club, all I can remember was one day walking in at the Inala Plaza News Agency, and was "bailed up" by the owner/operator - Jim Bowe. He told me that someone mention to him that I played Touch and was looking for a team or club to play in... so was I interested in playing for their team, the rest, as they say is history." - J Manguerra
"When we arrived in Brisbane Ron contacted City Touch and told them that we were wanting to play Touch and that our two eldest daughters were also willing to join a team. We were advised that there was a Club looking for more players and we were subsequently contacted through City Touch by Lou form EWOB." (Ron is Rosie's husband. Ron, Rosie, Lisa and Amy all play for the Club). - R Sakzewski
How did you get started with Touch?
"At about 28 years of age, it was the natural progression from playing Rugby League and Rugby Union since the age of 6. We formed a team of ex-union players and played in a Brisbane competition at 6am on Sunday morning travelling form one venue to the next. Touch was purely ex-male footballers who gave away contact football because of age or injury. Touch was more in line with Rugby League without the tackling and scrums. The ball was kicked off as in League and you had a marker. The marker caused more trouble than anything else, contact, fights, interference, grabbing and shoving." - J Bowe
"I first started playing Touch in High School and have been playing ever since. I still keep in contact with old High School friends through Touch, that's were the Cool Runnings team comes into the picture, unfortunately this may be the last season for Cool Runnings."- J Manguerra
"We have been involved in Touch for over 15 years. I first become involved in Touch when Ron first stated playing and eventually joined a women's team. Some year later I started playing "Mixed Touch" which I enjoy. We played Touch in Mackay which is aligned to NTRA and have continued this association at EWOB." - R Sakzewski
What do you like most about the EWOB Club?
"EWOB is a family oriented club that allows family and friends to participate in a sport together. We have husbands playing with wives, fathers, sons and daughters, mother, sons, and daughters, brother and sisters all participating. Throw in numerous friends and workmates and we have a great environment. We have supplied players, referees, coaches and selectors up to international level and I do believe that EWOB would be the most successful and largest club in Australia." - J Bowe
"I like the fact that the club is family oriented. Currently the club has the Bowe, Blom, Campbell, Fleming, Mee, Savage, and Sakzewski family. Each family contributing 2, 3 or 4 players. Also the overall club atmosphere - I don't have to worry about not having enough players for game night, there are always players willing to fill-in for someone who cannot make the game. Trying to field a full team, each week was a constant problem I experienced with the Cool Runnings Team. I've also had the opportunity to play with some good players and coach the Queensland NTRA 21's and 40's Ladies squad and Australian NTRA Open Mixed squad, opportunities that present itself because I was with the club." - J Manguerra
"I like the family atmosphere of the Club. The training sessions are really good because you get to know your team members as well as other members of the Club and also enables each team to work on aspects of their game. I like the support the Club gives to the teams and also the good nature competitiveness of all the Club members. The "no forfeit" policy also shows the commitment of all players at the EWOB Club." - R Sakzewski
